We recommend that assisted living facilities have protocols in place for the detection, prevention and elimination of bed bugs. By creating plans in advance of a bed bug complaint facilities will know how to handle the situation when it arises.  K-9 Sweeps recommends that assisted living facilities:

• Implement a protocol that includes educating management and staff on bed bug biology and early detection of bed bugs.
• Implement an inspection process of key areas and schedule canine detection teams on, at minimum, a quarterly basis to detect bed bugs in the earliest stages and to fend off full-blown infestations.  
• Implement plans on what do do when a bed bug issues does arise, and know how to handle it.
